Medical Disclaimer

Effective date: 23 October 2026. This disclaimer replaces the version dated 13 November 2022. It forms part of our Terms of Use.

Lungy was developed to help people learn and practise breathing exercises in an engaging, supportive and relaxing way. It is made by Pi-A Creative Systems Ltd, a company founded by doctors, but Lungy itself is not a medical device.

What Lungy is not

Lungy is not a medical or diagnostic device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any illness, and it is not a substitute for advice from your doctor, nurse, physiotherapist or other health professional. It must never be used instead of medication or emergency care. In a severe asthma attack, for example, use your inhaler and get help; do not use Lungy.

The numbers Lungy shows you, such as how many breaths you took or how steady they were, describe how your breathing was detected during an exercise. They depend on your phone, how you hold it, the room and how you breathe, and they vary from session to session. They are not measurements of lung function, are not spirometry, and must not be used to assess, monitor or diagnose any condition.

Who Lungy is for

Lungy is intended for people in general good health who want to practise breathing exercises for relaxation, sleep, focus or sport. It is not designed for people with a breathing or lung condition, or any other condition that makes breathing exercises difficult or unsafe, and it should not be relied on by them without medical advice.

Breathing exercises can be helpful for many people, and there is evidence of benefit in a range of conditions, but they are not right for everyone. Speak to a doctor before using Lungy if you are pregnant, take regular medication, or have a diagnosed condition, especially diabetes, high blood pressure, a heart condition, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, dysfunctional breathing, a history of fainting or seizures, or any long-term illness.

Some people with anxiety, panic or depression have found that intensive breathing or mindfulness practice makes their symptoms worse for a time. If this applies to you, start gently, and talk to your doctor or therapist if you are unsure.

When to stop

Stop the exercise and rest if you feel light-headed, dizzy or faint, if you notice tingling in your hands, face or lips, changes in your vision, chest pain, a racing or irregular heartbeat, or worsening shortness of breath, or if you feel anxious or unwell in any new way. Breathe normally until it passes. Seek medical advice if symptoms continue or recur, and call the emergency services if you have chest pain or severe breathlessness.

Where not to use it

Do not use Lungy while driving, cycling, operating machinery, swimming, bathing or doing anything that needs your full attention or where losing focus could hurt you or others. Choose a safe, comfortable place to sit or lie down.

Your responsibility

By using Lungy you confirm that you have read this disclaimer, that you understand Lungy is not a medical device, and that you take part in breathing exercises at your own discretion and risk. We cannot assess your health, so the decision to use Lungy, and to check with a health professional first, is yours. Our responsibility to you is set out in section 9 of the Terms of Use.
